Today I’ve been at the “Nordic Tomography Workshop” at the University of Helsinki. Actually, the Nordic European countries have an active and pretty large community in inverse problems and especially for the mathematics of tomography (have a look at the Finish Centre of Excellence in Inverse Problems Research to get an impression).

The program of the workshop was very interesting, especially because of the mix of the people which range from theorists to practitioners and also incorporated some guys in the middle which have moved back and forth between theory and applications. However, the schedule was tight here and I won’t be able to comment on the talks. But basically, people keep working on applying TV regularization to tomography and the point was made that in the cases when the data is really incomplete then TV can somehow counteract and still lead to useful reconstructions.
